Observations and Anecdotal Information
Blood orange essential oil is made from a particular variation of the sweet orange species, Citrus sinensis. Like all orange essential oils, it helps relieve stagnation, especially in the digestive system and stomach.
It is antitoxic, and helps clear toxins out of the digestive system if food is not digesting properly. This can be accomplished simply by applying blood orange to the abdomen in long, circular strokes; or by diluting it and taking a few drops of the remedy internally.
All of the varieties of orange and grapefruit essential oil carry anti-tumoral properties. They can be taken internally in water, sweetened with honey or maple syrup, on a daily basis over a long time period with beneficial effects.
Blood orange essential oil provides vitamin C, and is very high in anti-oxidants. It boosts the immune system and can provide increased protection against some forms of cancer. It is a mild natural laxative and a kidney stimulant.
Blood orange adds a wonderful flavor to foods, drinks and smoothies. Add only a drop or two to your recipe, and taste it before adding subsequent drops. Essential oils are very strong, and one single drop can make the flavor overwhelming in some cases! Start with a single drop and increase by one until you have reached the desired intensity of flavor.
