Observations and Anecdotal Information
Used in Native American medicine and old home remedies, the inner bark of blue hemlock was used to treat kidney and bladder issues. The twigs were boiled to make an enema for treating diarrhea.
It was also used to treat sores, ulcers, and even made into a strong tea to treat gangrene. Native Americans also used the tea as a drink to prevent scurvy.
Blue hemlock essential oil can be sprayed into the shoes to prevent foot odor.
It can also be used as a douche remedy for uterine and vaginal infections.
Blue hemlock essential oil can be added into steam baths for rheumatism and arthritis, colds, sore throats, and lung ailments.
It is very astringent, and can be used to stop bleeding. It has a skin tightening effect when used as a toner or in skin creme. Or massage it into sore muscles for a regenerating and pain relieving treatment.
