Observations and Anecdotal Information

An ancient plant medicine from the Mediterranean, cypress essential oil has been used by many cultures over thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians even used this oil in the ascension process, as well as for embalming.

There is much myth and mystery around the cypress tree, and it has long been associated with protection.

According to Greek myth, the god Apollo was born and raised in the sacred Ortygian cypress grove in Lykia. There he was nursed by the nymph Ortygia and guarded by shield-clashing Kouretes (guardian spirits).

This strong energy of protection continues to emanate from the essential oil today, making it a perfect oil for applying to the feet or solar plexus, at the very beginning of a massage, or anytime a feeling of protection is desired.

Cypress essential oil has many healing applications. It is useful for treating an enlarged or congested prostate, and balancing male or female hormones. It can be inhaled or applied topically to decrease the symptoms of PMS.

It is well known for increasing skin circulation to transform edema or cellulite conditions.

When diffused, it has the ability to disinfect the air and enhance the atmosphere. It is effective against viruses, bacteria, molds and fungus. It is also very soothing for sore throats.
